Bedwas Institute Restoration Begins
H&D collaborates with the Council to modernise Bedwas Workman’s Hall & Institute, securing a National Lottery grant for Phase 1, focusing on making the building wind and water-tight and improving accessibility.
The major restoration of Bedwas Workman’s Hall & Institute marks a significant milestone in preserving and modernising this historic building. Over the years, H&D have collaborated closely with the Council, conducting numerous surveys and feasibility assessments to ensure the building could be updated to meet the needs of all potential users. This effort also aimed to address the backlog of maintenance works that had been steadily increasing.
The Council’s successful acquisition of a substantial grant from the National Lottery enabled Phase 1 of the restoration to commence. This phase focused on making the building wind and water-tight, improving accessibility, and enhancing front-of-house spaces.
H&D were appointed to provide comprehensive surveying, architectural, and project management services. Their responsibilities included obtaining the necessary listed building and planning consents, securing building regulation approvals, developing designs, managing the tender process, and overseeing the construction phase.
H&D continue to be involved in the design development for future phases of the restoration, which will begin once additional funding is secured.
